According to the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report, In the first three months of 2013, crime rates in Boston dropped 15 percent when compared to the same period in 2012. According to the Boston Globe, between January 1, 2013 and March 18, 2013, when compared to the same period in 2012 rapes and dropped by 25 percent; robbery by 7 percent; aggravated assaults by 16 percent; burglary by 8 percent; larceny by 17 percent; and vehicle theft by 14 percent.

Property Crime
Reported property crimes in Boston decreased by 5.7% in 2011, when compared to 2010. All categories decreased, with auto thefts decreasing the most by 6.8%. Nationally, property crime has dropped since 2003 based on the Uniform Crime Report. In Boston, property crime started to decline in 2006 and has continued to drop.

Burglaries decrease 2.9%
Thefts decrease 6.3%
Auto Thefts decrease 6.8%

Violent Crime
Violent crime decreased by 9.7% in 2011. The largest decrease occurred in the aggravated assault category.

Homicides decrease 13.7%
Rape increase 5.9%
Robberies decrease 1.1%
Aggravated Assaults decrease 13.7%
