California’s Gateway to Yosemite Featured in Discover America "Great Outdoors" Travel Journals

The travel journals are "real travelers" blogs about visiting popular USA destinations. This travel journal was written by Jodi Sidle who heard about Madera County and wanted to enjoy the great outdoors adventures in California’s Gateway to Yosemite. She explored Zip Yosemite, located at Calvin Crest, Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad and Bass Lake (hiking and water activities) which all happen to be in the Sierra National Forest – the great outdoors.
Accompanying Jodi was a videographer, Bogdan Zlatkov. He had the precarious job of capturing this adventurous trip which included a 300 meter zip-line ride, train-riding, and boat-cruising on Bass Lake among the Sierra Nevada. “It was such a pleasure to work on this project with the Yosemite Sierra Visitor’s Bureau and Jodi Sidle, our excellent British host. Jodi wrote a wonderfully, detailed account of our trip,” said Bogdan.
Jodi and her videographer spent a couple of days exploring everything this Gateway has to offer. First stop was the visitors center at the Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau in Oakhurst on Hwy 41 then off to Zip Yosemite where she whizzed through the trees and had amazing views of the Sierra National Forest. Next, was a stop at the historic Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in Fish Camp, just 5 minutes from the Southern Gate of Yosemite National Park to ride a historic steam shay locomotive. Fish Camp, a small mountain town, will take you back to the days of logging and gold panning. You can’t help but imagine the people coming and going, riding the rail, and shouting “Eureka!”
Last, but not least, was a hike up “The Way of The Mono” trail at Bass Lake where she learned of the Indian culture of the area and took a ride on the lake where the serenity of the Sierra Mountains sooths your soul.
