Casino Bets on Strip Club - Scores Opens in Taj Mahal, Atlantic City
(PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- For the first time in U.S. history, a strip club and a casino have joined forces to attract new business from an increasingly competitive gambling market. Scores, the Manhattan based strip club chain, has foregone the traditional strip club model and has now opened a mainstream, adult nightclub inside Atlantic City’s Taj Mahal Casino.
The marriage of club and casino was consummated after Taj Mahal representatives visited the Scores club and steakhouse in Manhattan, according to Bob Gans, Managing Member of Scores Atlantic City, who Gentlemen’s Review interviewed for this story. The Taj may be hoping for added gamblers entering their casino, but a general loosening of social attitudes towards strip clubs and sexuality generally is the likely reason for the casino’s decision to partner with the posh club chain. “This is something I believe will act as an attraction,” says Gans.
Gans also described their new club model as “the next generation,” implying a departure from the 1970’s Go-Go style which had attracted negative attention and strict local ordinances for decades. The entertainment complex features a sports bar with flat screen TV’s, an 8,000 square foot showroom with multiple stages, and even an outdoor bar that overlooks the famous Atlantic City beach and boardwalk. Gans says, “This isn’t your father’s strip club.”
The Taj Mahal won’t be your father’s casino, either, after embracing the upscale strip club concept in order to stand out to customers with more and more gambling options. Gans commented, “You have 12 enormous casinos all within walking distance of each other.” With a sluggish economy and eroded tax base, neighboring States such as Pennsylvania have recently legalized gambling to get their piece of $40 billion dollar industry. Gans says, “You can go to Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York, Connecticut, if you drive 200 miles in any direction, you’ll hit a casino.”
So it seems the Taj Mahal and Atlantic City may need something to differentiate itself from its newly formed competition. Las Vegas has a reputation built upon the nightlife scene and is known for much more than just gambling. The Taj is now betting on the adult entertainment complex to give it some new business and younger, fresher vibe.
Scores is not just after a male audience, though. According to Gans, a separate room will host an all-male revue every weekend, tapping into an important segment of the gambling market. Recent strip club visits by Katy Perry and Rihanna only help to confirm the developing female mindset that strip clubs are now being accepted as mainstream entertainment.
