Center for Global Policy Solutions: Diverse Collective of Health Equity Experts Mark National Minority Health Month
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) April 12, 2017 -- Across the nation, communities of color continue to face persistent barriers to good health. April is National Minority Health Month and an opportune time to raise awareness about health disparities, their causes, and solutions to improve the health of all Americans.
The observance of National Minority Health Month is led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health. The theme for this month’s activities is “Bridging Health Equity Across Communities.” Allies for Reaching Community Health Equity (ARCHE), a program of the Center for Global Policy Solutions, is pleased to join HHS and the many organizations nationwide committed to addressing inequities in the social determinants such as poverty, income, housing, education, and transportation that lead to poor health among disadvantaged populations and communities.
“Solutions that address the intersection of issues including poverty, education, housing, transportation, criminal justice and the natural and social environments are critical for achieving lasting changes that address the underlying causes of health disparities,” says ARCHE Director Dr. Judy Lubin.
ARCHE (pronounced “ark”) envisions a diverse and inclusive society that promotes health, opportunity and economic and social wellbeing for everyone. To this end, ARCHE organizes trainings, partnerships, and convenings to strengthen the capacity of community leaders and policymakers to combat disparities by race, gender, geography, and income. ARCHE’s Health Equity Experts Network includes academics, practitioners and community leaders available to journalists and organizations seeking expertise on these issues.
ARCHE also provides a resource library with reports, case studies and other tools to help people learn about strategies that focus on the social, economic and environmental factors shaping the health of low-income and diverse populations.
