Colorado State-Pueblo to Add New Shaw Sports Turf Field with the Coming of Men's and Women's Lacrosse
Pueblo, Colorado (PRWEB) May 20, 2014 -- The addition of men’s and women’s lacrosse teams at Colorado State-Pueblo has resulted in the school’s decision to add a new synthetic turf playing surface from Shaw Sports Turf.
“Adding two lacrosse teams to the surface where our men’s and women’s soccer teams play necessitated the move from a maintenance and availability standpoint,” said Joe Folda, Athletic Director. “I prefer turf anyway.”
The turf is being installed by Academy Sports Turf of Englewood.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Academy and have always been satisfied with their work,” said Folda. “Academy has been involved in turf projects for our football, baseball, and softball fields. We have confidence in Academy and the Shaw Sports Turf system and the new field will be a great addition to our athletic program.”
The project is part of the new Art and Lorraine Gonzales Soccer & Lacrosse Complex. Folda said that much of the construction work on the new facility is the result of in-kind donations from university supporters.
The financial support for the project has come primarily from the Gonzales family. Art Gonzales, a retired local businessman, and his wife, Lorraine, are longtime supporters of the university.
They established the Art and Lorraine Gonzales Baseball Endowment in 1997 which aids the University in recruiting top student athletes with scholarships. Mr. and Mrs. Gonzales also contribute to the CSU-Pueblo football and wrestling programs. The premier CSU-Pueblo baseball camp is named in honor of the couple as The Art and Lorraine Gonzales Youth Baseball Clinic. Additionally, Art, who served as a director trustee of the CSU-Pueblo Foundation from 2000-2003, has been named to the CSU-Pueblo Athletics Hall of Fame. He also serves on the board of the CSU-Pueblo Foundation.
The Gonzalez family has also donated $2.7 million toward an athletic scholarship fund at the school.
The 102,000 square foot field will utilize the Shaw Sports Turf PowerBlade HP system.
