Crowdfunding Campaign for Underwater Photography Book, “Luminous Sea”, is Now Live on Indiegogo
(PRWEB) June 25, 2014 -- “Luminous Sea”, the underwater photography book from professional underwater photographer Richard Salas, has launched its crowdfunding campaign today on the popular crowdfunding website Indiegogo. The campaign was designed in order to raise the $45,000 needed to mass produce the final book in the Sea of Light trilogy as well as re-print the first book in the trilogy, “Sea of Light”.
While the previous two books in the Sea of Light trilogy focused on the more temperate waters of the Pacific Ocean near the Equator, “Luminous Sea” focuses on the chilly undersea world of the northern Pacific Ocean. The 156-page, 12”x12” coffee table book features up-close, high-resolution shots of the marine life that inhabit the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of the Pacific Northwest, specifically Canada and Alaska.
The Sea of Light trilogy features photos taken from numerous underwater locales from the Equator to Alaska. With a large portion of the photos taken throughout the California’s Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary only miles off the western coast of the Americas, “Luminous Sea” shows readers the beauty of an underwater world that’s right outside their front doors.
“These pictures weren’t taken in some insanely inaccessible location,” says Salas. “I wanted to show readers the beauty of the world that’s literally right outside their normal everyday grasp. These beautiful underwater habitats and amazing creatures are sharing the same coastlines as us.”
Salas, a professional photographer for over 35 years, combined his photographic expertise with his lifelong love of diving to create the Sea of Light trilogy. In order to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of the world’s oceans, fifty percent of the future profits from “Luminous Sea” will be donated to The Ocean Foundation.
“Spending as much time as I have with these amazing animals has completely changed me,” says Salas. “That’s why we have decided to donate one-half of Luminous Sea’s future profits to The Ocean Foundation.”
