A classic guessing game gets an online makeover in a promotion announced by multichannel retailer Sierra Trading Post. In a new twist on the "How many jelly beans are in the jar?" game, the Cyber Monday "Guess the Savings Ticker" giveaway offers participants three chances to guess the total dollar amount saved by Sierra Trading Post customers during Cyber Monday (November 30). The entrant whose guess comes closest to the Savings Ticker total will win a $1,000 shopping spree at Sierra Trading Post -- just in time for Christmas.

The Cyber Monday giveaway showcases a recent addition to Sierra Trading Post's website: the Savings Ticker. Located near the top of the Sierra Trading Post homepage, the Savings Ticker displays the total dollar amount and the average percentage of savings received by online customers each day over retail prices. By displaying each day's savings percentages for customers to see, the Savings Ticker holds Sierra Trading Post accountable for their "Save 35-70% Every Day" promise.

"Customers know they save money when they shop with us," says Gary Imig, Executive Vice President at Sierra Trading Post, "but with the Savings Ticker, customers see numbers push up past $500,000 daily, and realize that when we say 'Great Deals on Great Brands,' we deliver." Customer savings have been impressive, with 25 individual days over $1 million in savings during the 46-day span that the Savings Ticker has been active.

With the Savings Ticker up and running, and Christmas fast approaching, Online Marketing Manager Justin Johnson wanted a creative way to highlight the Savings Ticker and create online buzz for Sierra Trading Post. Previous giveaways generated great response and valuable word-of-mouth advertising, and Cyber Monday is the latest way for customers to interact with Sierra Trading Post in a new, fun and valuable way.

"The Cyber Monday giveaway is all about adding a casual, competitive element to our giveaways, which have been a very successful tool for promoting the Sierra Trading Post brand and message," says Johnson. "We decided that adding objective criteria to the Cyber Monday giveaway had three benefits: appealing to customers' competitive side, highlighting the Savings Ticker and creating a sense of urgency.
