As of October 18, 2012 the state of California mandated that all workers’ compensation carriers in the state be able to accept electronic submissions of medical bills (ebills). The ebilling guidelines, which can be found on the California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) website stipulate that while providers and facilities are not required to submit bills electronically, all carriers must be able to accept them electronically.
DaisyBill has been working closely with the California DWC monitoring carriers for compliance and contacting those that appear to be non-compliant. “Our current priority, after serving our clients, is ensuring all California workers’ compensation carriers accept ebills. Electronic billing acceptance has been discussed in California for years and was officially mandated in October 2012 but some carriers are still unable to accept ebills or provide remittance electronically. Electronic billing is happening and it’s great, but it’s a process that both carriers and providers need to be involved in.” Ms. Moray continued. “The easier we can make the billing process for providers, the more providers we hope will participate in the workers’ compensation system. Ultimately giving injured workers a choice in who they treat with and allow them to really seek out the best specialists in their field to get the worker back on their feet.”
Though the vast majority of workers’ compensation carriers are ebilling compliant there are still some small and mid-size carriers that are not compliant or only partially compliant. “DaisyBill is able to collect and track ebilling information on carriers and payers that no other system is able to.
