When you’re in Dallas, it’s all about business. It’s about start-ups. That’s why I chose Dallas to start my business.

David Kiger, CEO and founder of Worldwide Express, a Dallas-based package and freight shipping firm, was featured on David Johnson’s CEO Spotlight on KRLD-1080 AM Thursday, November 29. The five-minute interview can be accessed here.

Kiger told Johnson that commercial shipping closely mirrors consumer shipping from Black Friday to Christmas, making it the busiest time of the year for Worldwide Express franchisees. A recent article in MSN Money shared that UPS® estimates it will deliver 527 million packages in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, while FedEx estimates its total shipments at 280 million for the same period.

According to Kiger, small business is the backbone of the U.S. economy, creating the majority of new jobs. For many years, small and midsize businesses could not get the same kind of express shipping service that Fortune 500 companies routinely received. Seeing that as a major hurdle to business growth, Kiger founded Worldwide Express in 1995 to help level the playing field for small and midsize businesses when it came to express shipping service.

Today, the company is one of the largest authorized resellers of express shipping for UPS. Worldwide Express has more than 150 franchises across the country that generated $530 million in run rated sales in 2012.

Kiger praised Dallas as having an exceptional business climate, saying “I think it’s the best. When you’re in Dallas, it’s all about business. It’s about start-ups. That’s why I chose Dallas to start my business.”

When asked by Johnson what’s the next big thing for Worldwide Express, Kiger replied, “It’s probably more of what we’re doing. The less-than-truckload business is about $225 million of our revenue and growing quickly. We see continued growth with light parcel through UPS. The next big thing on the horizon would be full truckload which is five times bigger than light parcel and LTL combined.”
