Detroit Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council Moves Headquarters to NextEnergy Center
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- The US Green Building Council (USGBC) Detroit Regional Chapter (DRC) recently announced they will be moving their offices into the NextEnergy Center in the heart of Detroit.
The USGBC DRC supports Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design (LEED) projects and provides educational services for professionals seeking continuing education in LEED certification and green building in Southeast Michigan. The group formed in Fall 2002 and has grown to include hundreds of individual members, several active committees, a Board of Directors and sponsors.
“We are delighted that the Detroit Regional Chapter of the USGBC will be joining us at the NextEnergy Center,” said NextEnergy President and CEO, Jean Redfield. “Since the inception of the NextEnergy Center, sustainability, energy efficiency and renewable energy technology have been integral to who we are, and to the very infrastructure of our center. This partnership is a natural fit.”
NextEnergy supports industry and venture growth to accelerate the commercialization of advanced energy technologies. One of NextEnergy’s most recent projects is the construction of a direct current (DC) powered home, which demonstrates improvements to energy efficiency and utilizes smart grid technology. The DC powered home, known as NextHome, will include features such as photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, DC charging stations and vehicles, an energy monitoring dashboard, and energy storage capacity. The living lab, among other initiatives, will provide excellent opportunity for further collaboration between NextEnergy and the USGBC DRC.
