Dr. Ira Williams Asks What’s Wrong With Jonathan Bush’s Book, Where Does It Hurt?

Williams says, “If only a true transformation of our dysfunctional health care delivery system could be that easy.”
Dr. Williams continues, “Bush and I agree with the multitude that the current health care system is both ‘convoluted’, and ‘broken’, and that there are multiple forms of new methods seeking to delivery patient care utilizing the rapidly expanding wonders found in the “cloud”. Our differences on how to reinvent the health care delivery system however far out-weight our concurrence.”
Dr. Williams adds, “Bush did recognize the latest estimate of needless hospital deaths as published by John James in the Journal of Patient Safety (http://is.gd/GzKOg3) in September 2013 to be as many as 440,000 people annually, but only after asking, ‘…how do you define “harm”?’ Where Does It Hurt joins a long list of well-intended books offering suggestions on how to introduce more incremental changes to an enormous, unorganized system that is devoid of any systematic characteristics.”
Dr. Williams says, “Those that believe that entrepreneurship and better marketing will miraculously transform a health care delivery system with a quarter century track record where every new estimate of needless hospital deaths is significantly greater than all previous estimates beginning with the original 1990 estimate of 98,000 (http://is.gd/LTnBli) are looking through the wrong end of their optimistic telescope.
