Dr. Sanjay Jain Delivers Flight Safety Tips for Airline Passengers

With that said, air travel can still be a stressful and sometimes risky endeavor for many travelers around the world. The recent Malaysian Flight 370 disappearance has caused some to feel an increased sense of fear before flying. Here are some tips for safety conscious travelers considering a long journey by plane sometime in the near future.
1. Keep track of your luggage in crowded terminals. Baggage can easily be lost or stolen in crowded airport terminals, and many airports and countries have instituted fines and citations for any luggage that is found unattended by airport staff. Keeping your baggage in close proximity to you at all times minimizes the risk of loss either by accident, theft, or confiscation by airport personnel.
2. Exit aisles near the rear of the aircraft are typically the safest parts of the plane, because they are located far from the wings, which carry fuel for the aircraft, and because they are in close proximity to emergency exits. If you have the opportunity to choose your seating, you may want to consider an exit aisle. One extra perk: more legroom!
3. If you are traveling abroad, always be sure to check and see if any vaccinations are required before you enter a certain country. You should also carry an International Certificate of Vaccination-ICV (yellow book) so that any foreign medical personnel can administer the proper treatment if you become ill.
4. Always make photocopies of your passport and/or entry visa. It was recognized with Malaysian Flight 370 that two men on the flight likely used stolen passports. If either as passport or visa is lost or stolen, having a photocopy on hand to prove your identity will make obtaining a replacement considerably easier plus keep future flights safer.
5. Always follow the instructions of flight attendants and other airline crew. These people are trained professionals tasked with ensuring your comfort and safety during your journey. Heeding their instructions, and reading any safety literature they distribute will ensure that you are prepared in the event of an accident.
