Duesseldorf Airport Announces: Duesseldorf Airport’s Summer Schedule Delivers New Options for North American Travelers: 190 Destinations in 50 Countries

In addition to established non-stop flights to DUS from eight US Canadian cities (Atlanta, Chicago, Ft. Myers, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Newark, Toronto), the summer schedule offers 60 airlines serving 190 destinations in 50 countries. So if you want to get far away from it all, just pick a destination from Düsseldorf Airport - whether it’s Japan’s pulsating capital of Tokyo, a stroll along Ancona’s harbor promenade, or a trip to Kirkenses in Norway’s North. The new schedule is in effect as of March 30, 2014.
“The new flight schedule reflects the airlines’ ongoing strong engagement in Düsseldorf. The demand for take-off and landing slots continues to be high,” says Thomas Schnalke, the airport’s CEO. “Among the highlights are five new European destinations served by Germanwings. Moreover, Air Berlin offers new flights from Düsseldorf and adds to existing routes,” says Schnalke, “and for the first time, daily nonstop flights to Tokyo by All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest airline, are among our long-haul flights.” In total, travelers can choose from 110 weekly long-haul flights to 25 intercontinental destinations this summer.
Summer Schedule Highlights:
Japan’s largest airline, All Nippon Airways (ANA), will fly to Tokyo-Narita nonstop daily from Düsseldorf. Flight NH941 arrives at DUS at 4:00 PM and departs again at 7:35 PM as flight NY942 to Japan. Along with joint-venture partners Lufthansa, Swiss Air and Austrian Airlines, the new ANA flight creates great connecting options in Germany and Europe. Moreover, with its Boeing 787, the Dreamliner will touch Düsseldorf soil for the first time – an aircraft that has a reputation for being passenger friendly, using less kerosene, and emitting less noise during take off and landing.
Germanwings is taking over Lufthansa’s inter-European air traffic at Düsseldorf Airport, and when the transition is completed by next year, it will make North-Rhine Westphalia’s most important airport the biggest Germanwings base in Germany. The switch to Germanwings also adds five new European destinations: One flight per week to the Italian coastal towns of Ancona and Brindisi and to Bastia in North-East Corsica, and two flights per week to the Montpellier in Mediterranean France and to Rijeka, Croatia.
Air Berlin is adding weekly connections to Calvi, Corsica, and to Kirkenses, Norway, and increasing its flights to Madrid, Spain, to six. Air Berlin is also augmenting existing routes in Germany and Europe, e.g., an additional daily flight to Hamburg (up to five times per day), Stuttgart (up to five times per day), and Dresden (up to four times per day), and up to five additional weekly flights to Vienna (37). The number of flights to Tel Aviv will be doubled, from two to four per week.
Air China and Finnair are two more airlines adding more flights from Düsseldorf on existing routes. This summer, Air China will fly nonstop to Beijing five times per week.
Aegean Airlines and Germania Airlines will add more vacation destinations to their flights from Düsseldorf. The Greek airline will fly to Kalamata on the Peloponnese twice per week this summer, and once per week to the island of Corfu. Germania offers three new destinations: Once per week to Porto Santo, Portugal, and Edremit, Turkey, and once every two weeks to Karlsbad, Czech Republic.
Düsseldorf Airport also welcomes new airlines Air One (AP), Montenegro Airlines (YM), and Ukraine International Airlines (PS). AP will fly to the Catania, Sicily, twice per week, YM to Montenegro, and PS will have a daily flight to Kiev.
