Rob Bakker of Eneco
From now on we can guarantee the timeliness of all of our 700 reports, including those who are not used very frequently, using the automatic test features.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 7, 2009
Energy company Eneco, based in The Netherlands, recently completed a detailed evaluation of BI quality assurance software for IBM Cognos and selected the MotioCI quality management software from Motio Inc.. This software substantially contributes to the new, higher service levels towards completeness, timeliness and performance of the BI reports at Eneco. But more important is that Eneco saves 15% on the maintenance budget for their IBM Cognos environment every year and can thus achieve the cost containment targets set by the management with the MotioCI ROI in months, not years.
The department application maintenance within Eneco, MID, is part of the Solution Center Business Intelligence (SCBI) and supplies BI-support to end users. The MID ensures that service-levels towards completeness, timeliness and performance are being monitored and fulfilled. Furthermore the MID is the counter for questions, incidents en changes. After completion projects are managed by the MID department.
According to Rob Bakker, Chief Solution Center Business Intelligence, his internal customer has become more critical and this requires pro-active application maintenance and quality checks so that problems can be found early and can be resolved. Beyond that application maintenance should be carried out at substantially lower cost.
Bakker: "Until now we had our Cognos OTAP mainly automated by self written Linux scripts. We now replace this 'Christmas tree' by MotioCI and its advantages:
- we do not have to maintain the Linux scripts anymore
- there are less failures due to corrupt files
- less communication is needed between SBCI and Operations about the scripts
- we do not need continuous availability at Operations for (O)TAP work, including the deployment of reports to another Cognos environment
Alone by this last point we directly save 500 hours per year on hiring external specialists. So we actually reduce our out-of-pocket costs."
Zero-Touch Version Control with MotioCI is fully automated. Also the resolution of incidents and rolling back to previous versions is quicker and therefore cheaper. Bakker says: "From now on we can guarantee the timeliness of all of our 700 reports, including those who are not used very frequently, using the automatic test features."
We can now even simulate the usage of reports (performance and stress testing) by which we have pre-inspection of the performance of a new report, a new user group or new hardware
At Eneco some reports must meet fixed output requirements before they can be released. With MotioCI the SBCI can setup specific automated test sets and meet this requirements.
Bakker was very satisfied about the cooperation with E-mergo: "During the final proof phase of the evaluation E-Mergo took the lead, they quickly interacted with our business and we noticed that they stand for quality and pragmatics."
