Farmington, MI Dental Crown Procedures are Now Placed using CEREC Technology with Dr. Roman Shlafer
Farmington, MI (PRWEB) August 23, 2013 -- Using an advanced dental restorative system called CEREC, Farmington, MI dentist Dr. Roman Shlafer can now complete a range of patient services in a single appointment. The new CEREC system allows Dr. Shlafer to place a dental crown, replace fillings, restore decayed teeth, remove defective amalgam fillings, or place cosmetic veneers in just one visit.
CEREC is an acronym that stands for: Chairside, Economical, Restorations, Esthetic, and Ceramic. Around the world, dentists use the CEREC method to replace fillings as well as restore weakened, broken, and decayed teeth to their natural strength and beauty with exclusively ceramic, tooth-colored materials.
Unlike other restorative techniques, which require patients to bite into a tray of gooey material until it hardens to form an imprint, the CEREC system takes optical impressions. Dr. Shlafer coats the tooth with a tasteless, nontoxic power and takes a digital picture of the tooth, a process that only takes a minute or two to complete. With the CEREC 3D software, Dr. Shlafer can convert the digital picture into a three dimensional virtual model on the computer screen and use his professional expertise to design the restoration.
Once designed, Dr. Shlafer sends the restoration design data to a separate milling machine in the office, and a ceramic block matching the patient’s tooth shade is placed there. In just 10 to20 minutes, a ceramic tooth-colored restoration such as a dental crown is finished and ready for Dr. Shlafer to bond in place. After fitting the dental crown or other restoration in the patient’s mouth to ensure proper fit and bite, Dr. Shlafer polishes and bonds it to the prepared tooth. With the CEREC method, the tooth is restored on the same day, negating the need for temporary replacements or return trips.
