The new FieldTurf surface will be a big improvement and is consistent with what is in TCF Bank Stadium and on our indoor field.
Minneapolis, MN (Vocus/PRWEB) January 27, 2011
The University of Minnesota has selected FieldTurf for the outdoor practice field area at the Gophers’ Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex. This marks the third FieldTurf field on campus for the Gophers. FieldTurf was installed at TCF Bank Stadium in June of 2009, and was installed at the Gibson Nagurski Indoor Football Complex in 2010. All FieldTurf fields that are a part of the Gibson Nagurski Football Complex have replaced previous Astroplay surfaces.
“The new FieldTurf surface will be a big improvement and is consistent with what is in TCF Bank Stadium and on our indoor field,” said Minnesota Associate Athletic Director Scott Ellison. “It’s another first-class FieldTurf upgrade for our football program.”
“FieldTurf has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Minnesota Gopher athletics, and that is something we are extremely proud of,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “We will continue to provide the University of Minnesota with a playing surface that is far-and-away the best and safest in the industry. And we’re delighted in the confidence that has continued to be shown to us by the entire Gopher administration.”
The Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex opened in 1985, and was named in honor of Gopher greats George Gibson and Bronko Nagurski. The complex is a state-of-the-art facility that houses the Golden Gopher Football offices, team meeting rooms, equipment room, training room and the players’ lounge. It also includes a 12,000 square-foot multi-level weight training facility along with medical/training facilities. In addition, UM’s Football Hall of Fame, which honors the tradition of Gopher football, is also housed in the Gibson-Nagurski Complex.
FieldTurf dominates both the NCAA and NFL. The list of major universities who play their home games on FieldTurf include Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, West Virginia, Kansas State, Missouri, Texas, Texas Tech, Iowa, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Louisville. Two-thirds of all NFL teams utilize FieldTurf in their stadiums and/or practice facilities.
