A few steps from the Aquarium, la Città dei Bambini (City for Children), the biggest structure in Italy dedicated to science, technology and fun for children aged 2 to 12. In the area of the Porto Antico you can also find the Galata Museo del Mare (Museum of the Sea). Get on board a Genovese galley ship from the 17th century, a life-size reconstruction, to discover what life was like on board, in the shoes of a crew member. The section of the museum dedicated to emigration is of great interest, and the new Storm Room lets you get on board a lifeboat to experience in 4D a storm at Cape Horn.
Docked in front of the Galata Museo del Mare museum is the Nazario Sauro. The biggest Italian submarine that may be visited in water offers visitors the chance to experience how submarine crews lived on board a real submarine.
A visit to the Museo di Storia Naturale G. Doria (Natural History Museum), gives both old and young alike a chance to have an incredible trip through the world of animals: a great exhibition of 7,000 animals, minerals and fossils coming from every part of the world and arranged in 23 big rooms in over 5,000 square meters... This is only the tip of the iceberg: the museum is available for scholars, and contains over 4.5 million samples!
If the summer day is inviting, take a dive in the sea just a few steps away from the historical center in Corso Italia. Many beach clubs offer a pleasant day at the beach.
At dinnertime, the beach clubs become lovely restaurants on the sea where you can have a delicious fish dinner while enjoying the sunset.
After dinner, take a pleasant walk on Corso Italia, until you come to the typical fishing village of Boccadasse, where it feels like time has stopped. Pastel-colored buildings, its little beach and fishing boats pulled up on dry land offer the perfect background for a photo! And one last suggestion… Let yourselves be tempted by the ice cream here!
Before finishing your vacation, don’t miss a trip to Nervi, at the extreme eastern side of the city, with its historical parks and characteristic boardwalk hanging over the sea.
Starting from the little port, you can walk along the boardwalk stopping to admire the panorama that on particularly clear days affords a view of Portofino and Camogli on one side, and the outline of the Riviera of Palm Trees to the other.
Passing through one of the many passageways along the boardwalk, you can find coolness in the shade of the palms, maritime pines and exotic plants that make up the Historical Park of Nervi. In spring and late summer you can enjoy the spectacular flowering of the roses in the Rose Garden at Villa Grimaldi Fassio. For art lovers, inside the Park there are splendid historical villas which house the Museums of Nervi, a complex dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Finally, with a little luck, you can meet the real owners of the park: the squirrels!
