George Tice at Seventy-Five: 60 Years of Photography Will Be Opening in Gallery 270 in Westwood on October Third
Westwood, NJ (PRWEB) September 28, 2013 -- Gallery 270 at Bergen County Camera is marking the celebration of the 75th birthday of renowned New Jersey native photographer George Tice with our exhibition, George Tice at Seventy-Five: 60 years of Photography, opening on Thursday, October 3, From 7-9pm, at 270 Westwood Ave, Westwood, NJ. The artist will be present to meet with the public and personalize copies of his extensive book catalog along with the debut of Seldom Seen book and poster printed by Brilliant Press. The exhibition will run through November 2, 2013. Gallery hours are 10am-6pm M, T, W, F, Thursday 10am-9pm, Saturday 9am-6pm.
George Tice’s work is in the permanent collections of over one hundred museums worldwide, including the Met and MoMA in NY, The Newark Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and The Getty Museum, CA. George Tice began showing his work publicly in 1965 and was shown frequently at the influential and pioneering photography gallery, The Witkin Gallery in NYC. In 1972, he had a one-man show in Paterson, New Jersey at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2002, ICP exhibited some of the known work from his native NJ with George Tice: Urban Landscapes. More of his iconic New Jersey landscapes form the scenic backdrop of the Broadway play "Jersey Boys."
Tice has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Media Museum (UK), the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, as well as commissions from the Field Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and MoMA.
He has published some seventeen books, some now out of print, including the following that are available at Gallery 270: Lincoln (1984), Hometowns, An American Pilgrimage (1988), Stone Walls, Grey Skies, A Vision of Yorkshire (1993) Fields of Peace (1998), Urban Landscapes (2002), Common Mementos (2005), Paterson II (2006), Ticetown (2007), and Seacoast Maine (2009). His forthcoming collection, Seldom Seen, contains over 100 previously unpublished photographs and we’ll have advanced copies available at the gallery opening.
