Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast Receives Grant from Lauralie and J. Irvine Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County
Castroville, CA (PRWEB) August 14, 2013 -- Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast announced today receipt of a $20,000 grant award from the Lauralie and J. Irvine Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County to provide Girl Scout outreach programming in Bradley, San Ardo, San Lucas, King City, Jolon, Greenfield, Soledad, Gonzales, and Chualar.
"I can't wait to..!" is a leading emotion girls experience when they are anticipating their next adventure according to a recent Girl Scout research study," said Gina Jaeger, CEO of Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast. "And, we know the feeling - we can't wait to serve girls in South County with the fun and enrichment Girl Scouting can provide through this generous contribution from The Lauralie and J. Irvine Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County." A top concern for area agencies, the region is underserved for programs that help girls with personal development and provide constructive use of time outside of the school environment. "With this funding, Girl Scouts will be able to offer a variety of programs for girls, ages 5 through 15, in neighborhoods close to home. And, if history repeats itself, as it has for over 100 years, South County girls will most fondly remember their Girl Scout experience as having a very positive life-long impact," continued Jaeger.
Known as the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, girls in South County will have the opportunity to participate in afterschool programs that emphasize critical thinking, teamwork, community involvement, personal development, healthy living habits, and more. Girl Scouts will work in partnership with local youth-oriented organizations and anticipates reaching 500 girls in a series of community collaborations, soccer, gardening, storytelling and writing, computer literacy and career exploration activities all designed to help girls build self-confidence and become leaders in their own lives.
