San Jose, CA (PRWEB) February 22, 2014 -- The gala, which is an annual celebration of girls and signature fund raising event for Girls For A Change, a national organization that empowers girls to create social change, is set for Friday, March 7, 2014, 5:30-10 p.m. at the Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club, 3000 Alexis Drive, Palo Alto, California. One of the two nationally recognized projects was featured by The Huffington Post. As a Girl Ambassador for Girls For A Change, in conjunction with U by Kotex, Bay Area teenager Alice Wilder produced a video encouraging other high school girls not to be embarrassed about their periods http://youtu.be/d2K1LHOsaOA. In the meantime, girls in a Girls For A Change program in Richmond, Virginia started a special father-daughter dance for girls with incarcerated fathers that takes place inside a city jail. That dance was highlighted in a TED Talk http://youtu.be/MNhCvM5pjfs and has since been featured in national media to include ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, Inside Edition, and the Washington Post. These, and other projects by girls, will be recognized at the Girl Gala to help celebrate what the organization is all about…the girls’ voices, and the opportunity for them to be heard.
The Girl Gala will also feature dinner, a live performance by teen band URDOM, live and silent auctions, Change Agent Awards, and speakers to include Sharna Fey, a life coach and leadership consultant with more than 20 years of experience, and Courtney Martin, an award-winning journalist and widely sought-after speaker on activism and feminism. Girls and Coaches from Girls For A Change will be seated at every table, so attendees are encouraged to bring their children to share in the occasion, learn more about the organization, and be inspired by the girls being recognized, as well as the other women in attendance.
The gala will also present attendees with the opportunity to meet and welcome new Girls For A Change CEO Angela Patton, who is also the Founder of Richmond, Virginia-based Camp Diva. In addition, Kotex will be recognized for their support of Girls For A Change over the years. Girls For A Change hopes to raise $75,000 from this year’s event.
