Glendora Country Club Begins Turf Reduction Project with Plans to Receive $2.2 Million Rebate
Glendora, Calif. (PRWEB) November 05, 2014 -- Glendora Country Club will remove approximately 25 acres of turf in the next 180 days to comply with the Metropolitan Water District’s turf reduction rebate program. The MWD announced plans to encourage turf reduction this July, and Glendora Country Club was the first club to apply for the rebate, which allows for reimbursement of up to $2 per square foot. The club stands to receive a $2.2 million rebate.
With a focus on preserving the playability and flow of the original golf course design, Glendora Country Club has consulted with top landscape architects and irrigation specialists. The project will create natural corridors that accent the terrain and shape of holes. Drought resistant, native plants will blend with the existing landscaping, creating a realistic and aesthetically pleasing result. In addition to turf reduction, Glendora Country Club will enhance the irrigation system, installing drip irrigation to maximize efficiency and generate healthier turf and better playing conditions.
Prior to this project, Glendora Country Club had taken measures to reduce water usage by installing new irrigation controllers and sprinkler heads. The club already had plans in the works to remove 15 to 20 acres of turf and install drought tolerant plants before the rebate program was announced.
Glendora Country Club President, Jack Stoughton, explains the importance of developing a more sustainable, eco-friendly course, “The project has the potential to save 20 to 25 percent of water annually which is extremely critical to our club. The new turf reduction project will be complete on February 15, 2015 to fit within the 180-day window mandated by the MWD. The club expects minimal disturbances and course closures.
