Global Partners in Care and the African Palliative Care Association Release New Clinical Placement Guidelines
Alexandria, Va (PRWEB) December 22, 2014 -- Africa is facing a staggering disease burden that is only expected to increase dramatically in the coming decades. To meet this demand, African healthcare professionals need education and training to better provide high-quality, culturally competent palliative care. Global Partners in Care has partnered with the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) to release the digital publication, Guidelines for Clinical Placement in Hospice and Palliative Care.
“The partnership has resulted in more confident and skilled providers of palliative care services in Africa filling a gap which would have remained,” said APCA’s Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel B.K. Luyirika. “The partnership is therefore positively impacting lives in Africa at local and national levels in several countries.”
Many African countries face a shortage of healthcare staff in general, and a specific deficit in providers who are skilled in palliative care provision. The Guidelines will enhance and further assist African health systems including hospice and palliative care organizations to host clinical training and mentorship activities for those who are trained in palliative care and provide consistency across all settings and disciplines.
The Guidelines build upon current efforts to expand palliative care education and training activities in Africa, by ensuring that all those trained have an opportunity for clinical experience and mentorship. U.S. based Global Partners in Care, an affiliate of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, builds partnerships to enhance compassionate care globally and is committed to improving access to hospice and palliative care worldwide.
