Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Boston Real Estate Practice represented not-for-profit organization Community Servings in a $21 million expansion project on the site of its Jamaica Plain headquarters. Greenberg Traurig Boston attorneys Edward S. Hershfield and David Hackett provided pro bono legal services throughout the project. Greenberg Traurig became involved during the conceptual stage, identifying needed revisions to existing land use documents and negotiating architectural and construction contracts. The Greenberg Traurig legal team then collaborated with neighboring landowners to restructure easements and reciprocal rights agreements and also worked with multiple lenders to put the financing structure in place, which included New Market Tax Credits.

The 31,000-square-foot project, known as the “Food Campus,” consists of a three-story addition and kitchen expansion in Community Servings’ existing space, which will enable the organization to increase the production of medically tailored meals, capacity for daily volunteers, and number of food service job training graduates. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2019. More information about the project is available at http://www.servings.org/foodisthefoundation.

Community Servings is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program providing services throughout Massachusetts and in Rhode Island to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses like HIV/AIDS, cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, heart disease, and others. The organization’s medically tailored meals are made-from-scratch and home-delivered, sending the message to those in greatest need that someone cares.
