Francoise Gilbert, shareholder at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will speak at the 43rd Annual IP Institute: Creativity and Innovation in the Arts and Sciences, held in San Jose, Nov. 7-9.
Gilbert, a Global Privacy and Cybersecurity shareholder in Greenberg Traurig’s Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices, will participate as a panelist in a session titled, “GDPR: Lessons Learned from the Front Line.” The panel will discuss the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), one of this year’s hottest subjects in the legal field. Topics will include what the European Data Protection Board expects related to GDPR, feedback from companies that have implemented compliance programs, and what actions law firms and companies can take to ensure compliance.
Gilbert focuses her practice and research on advanced U.S. and global data privacy and security matters. She counsels clients on complex issues and compliance requirements related to privacy, security, and e-business risks. Some of her favorite engagements include designing data protection programs that comply with the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), shaping digital advertising campaigns, integrating privacy and security controls in data analytics and artificial intelligence projects, identifying and addressing personal data issues likely to arise from the use of products or services used in digital cities, connected devices, intelligent vehicles, and other emerging technologies. Gilbert is the author and editor of the leading two-volume treatise Global Privacy and Security Law, published by Wolters Kluwer (http://www.globalprivacybook.com), which analyzes in depth the privacy and data protection laws of 68 countries on all continents (Wolters Kluwer 2009-2018). She has received law degrees and obtained bar admissions both in the United States and in France, and holds CIPP/US, CIPP/EU, and CIPM certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
