Guardian Project launches innovative $1 per person campaign to help Oakland, CA youth for decades to come.

“Our city is in a crisis mode when it comes to after-school opportunities for our youth students. As a collective group, if we want our town to reach its full potential in the future we need to start investing in our youth."

Currently, nonprofit Guardian Training is providing over 150 local youth with free martial arts training in downtown Oakland. One of the fastest growing nonprofits in all of the bay area, Guardian has now outgrown the capacity of their current location. In an effort to accommodate the large amount of wait listed youth, the organization recently leased a large eclectic warehouse located in the heart of Oakland at 2148 Brush Street which will serve as their 2nd location and future headquarters. This new facility will allow them to increase their impact on Bay Area youth exponentially.

“In particular, the obstacles young people face in following a successful path to adulthood vary greatly by contextual factors such as poverty and the resources available in their communities.” Huffington Post

Guardian co-founder Ben Kovacs says, “Our city is in a crisis mode when it comes to after-school opportunities for our youth students. As a collective group, if we want our town to reach its full potential in the future we need to start investing in our youth."

Kovacs goes onto say, “We decided to launch the #dollar4oakland campaign because fundraising should be something that everyone can participate in. We cater to all demographics at Guardian with the vast majority of our youth students being from very low-income to lower middle-class families. By launching this campaign we want everyone to feel like they can do their small part to participate and share in this campaign to provide new hope for hopefully thousands of Oakland youth over the coming decades.”
