Healthcare Solutions Appoints Brian Carpenter to Senior Vice President of Pharmacy Product Development and Clinical Management

Carpenter brings more than 20 years of experience in pharmacy benefit management (PBM) product development, strategic client relations, clinical program oversight and pharmacy operations to Healthcare Solutions’ PBM and clinical services division.

As SVP of pharmacy product development and clinical management, Carpenter will lead Healthcare Solutions’ internal team of clinical pharmacists in providing impactful clinical programs to help customers reduce prescription drug costs and improve claimant safety and care. Carpenter will focus on new product development, process and quality improvements, and the integration of clinical PBM services into Healthcare Solutions’ managed care and specialty product segments. Additionally, Carpenter will lead Healthcare Solutions’ pharmacy & therapeutics (P&T) committee, which focuses on the selection of appropriate medications to treat workers’ compensation and auto casualty claimants.

Most recently, Carpenter served as vice president of product development and PBM clinical programs at Coventry Workers’ Comp Services where he was responsible for managing the company’s clinical PBM programs. Prior to Coventry, Carpenter oversaw benefit management at CVS/Caremark including formulary operational management, adjudication platforms, clinical decisioning and quality management. He also served as a staff model pharmacist at CIGNA. Throughout Carpenter’s career, he has designed pharmacy and clinical management solutions to help customers reduce medical expenses, improve operating efficiencies and produce better outcomes for claimants.
Carpenter is a well-known workers’ compensation thought leader and speaker on pharmacy management, a published author and contributor in workers’ compensation trade publications. He received his pharmacy degree from Ohio State University and is a licensed pharmacist in Arizona, Ohio and West Virginia.
