A study published in the American Journal of Audiology found that the negative influence of impaired cardiovascular health on both the peripheral and central auditory system has the potential to affect an individual’s capacity to hear.
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) February 17, 2012
February is National Heart Health Month, a time when communities across the country join together to raise awareness for heart disease and promote healthy lifestyles. California Hearing Center is teaming up with hearing aid manufacturer, Oticon, to support the worthy cause during February and March by donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Intiga hearing devices to the American Heart Association.
“A study published in the American Journal of Audiology found that the negative influence of impaired cardiovascular health on both the peripheral and central auditory system has the potential to affect an individual’s capacity to hear. The same study found that a healthy cardiovascular system--a person’s heart, arteries and veins--can have a positive effect on hearing,” Audiologist Darcy Benson, Au.D., of California Hearing Center said. “This gives us even more incentive to take steps to improve our heart and hearing health during the National Heart Month in February.”
Oticon's commitment to putting People First supports hearing care and hearing solutions that empower people to continue to take an active role in life. Untreated hearing loss can result in increased stress, isolation and depression--factors that contribute to an increased risk of heart disease. By raising awareness for heart disease and taking positive steps to reduce risk, the campaign aims to educate and inspire people to adopt healthy heart and healthy hearing lifestyles. Through the "At the Heart of It" campaign, Oticon hopes to motivate other healthy choices that provide life-changing benefits.
Oticon also invites people to share stories and experiences about healthy living at http://www.oticonusa.com/peoplefirst.
