Historic New York City Garment District Clergy and Judicial Robe Supplier is Asked to Participate in Museum of Arts and Design Exhibition: NYC Makers - The MAD Biennial
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 26, 2014 -- Historic New York City Garment District clothier Duffy and Quinn/Craft Robe Company manufacturers of church robes, judicial apparel and school uniforms invited to participate in the prestigious Museum of Arts and Design exhibition July 1 - Oct 12. This exhibition - NYC Makers: The MAD Biennial, will spotlight creative communities thriving across the five boroughs of New York City today. This is first exhibition of its kind and will showcase the work of 100 highly inventive designers, artists & artisans whose contributions have left a lasting impression upon all that New York City is.
The garment district of New York City has a long colorful history and Duffy and Quinn/Craft Robe Company’s Marvin Goldman (now in his mid-80s), his father and his grandfather helped shape that history. According to Marvin Goldman, “My grandfather came over from Poland and set up a fabric business in the garment district in the mid-1890s, and then my father expanded his father’s business and became a clothier, cutting out suits from bolts of fabrics. I took over the business from my father in the mid-1950s which is when we began to specialize in clergy and judicial apparel as well as attire for choir, confirmation, school uniforms and graduation ceremonies. ”
The inclusion in this exhibition of Marvin Goldman’s 118 year old family business from New York Cities’ famed garment district, exemplifies the thrust of the Museum’s exhibition to highlight the interconnected web of cultural production in New York City today and underscore the importance of craft in contemporary life.
About Duffy and Quinn/Craft Robe Company:
One of the oldest and most colorful family owned apparel manufacture and suppliers in the United States, the roots of Duffy and Quinn/Craft Robe Company began in New York City’s garment district in the mid-1890s. Marvin Goldman’s grandfather imported bolts of fabrics that were used across the garment district. Later Marvin’s father took over the business, as Marvin recalls “cutting out suits from these great rolls of fabric.” Marvin took over the business from his father in the mid-1950s specializing in clergy and judicial apparel as well as attire for choir, confirmation, school uniforms and graduation ceremonies that are supplied to individuals and institutions across the United States.
Duffy and Quinn/Craft Robe Company is still located in New York City’s garment district as it has been for the past 118 years.
