In recognition of March’s Spiritual Wellness Month, Kaizen Holistic Health has issued these top tips to tap into and take advantage of things to do to enhance spiritual wellness.

Spiritual wellness is an underlying dimension contributing to total health and wellbeing. As multi-dimensional human beings, overall health cannot be determined by eating habits alone. Kaizen Holistic Health has provided these top tips to help tap into spiritual wellness this month.

According to the National Wellness Institute there are ‘Six Dimensions of Wellness.’ They include emotional, occupational, physical, social, intellectual and spiritual. To accurately determine one’s total health it is next to impossible not to include spiritual wellness, as it is a foundational factor contributing to overall health.

So what exactly is spiritual wellness and how can someone achieve it? Defined: spiritual wellness is the ability to establish peace and harmony in life. It’s the core and innermost self of every person. It’s deeper than the constant, incessant chatter we hear in our heads. It is awareness that we are more than just our physical bodies. Spiritual wellness is more commonly defined today as dimensions of mind, body and spirit.

For Stacy Scibetta, founder of Kaizen Holistic Health, spiritual wellness is a personal and sacred journey that is a unique experience for each individual.

For some, spiritual wellness may involve meditation, prayer, affirmations, or specific spiritual practices that support a connection to a higher power or belief system. Yoga and meditation can also help develop spiritual wellness.

How to determine a state of spiritual wellness: Ask yourself the following four questions to determine which areas of your spiritual you need to work on.

1.    Do I make time for relaxation in my day?
2.    Do I make time for meditation and/or prayer?
3.    Do my values guide my decisions and actions?
4.    Am I accepting of the views of others?

Seven Steps to Encourage Spiritual Wellness:
1.    Quiet time (alone and meditate regularly)
2.    Practice Acceptance (seeing life as it is now) and Detachment (release yourself from outcome)
3.    Cultivate healthy, supportive relationships with family and friends.
4.    Be fully engaged in the “doing” of the present moment.
5.    Be open and inquisitive to learning
6.    Live a playful life; make time for laughter, art, music and dance.
7.    Take a deep breathe; periodic deep breathing will help to balance sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
