Investigations of NaturaLyte and Granuflo Injuries by North Carolina Law Firm Mike Lewis Attorneys Continue As Statute of Limitations Nears Expiration

Manufactured by Fresenius Medical Care North America, NaturaLyte and Granuflo were the subject of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s most stringent recall, a Class 1, in response to an Urgent Product Notification released by Fresenius. The FDA recall of NaturaLyte and Granuflo was filed in March 2012.
The use of Granuflo and NaturaLyte has been linked to increased incidences of cardiac arrest and arrhythmia due to elevated bicarbonate levels in patients who received the drugs. The official FDA recall notes side effects from elevated bicarbonate levels may include very low blood pressure, reduced potassium in the blood (hypokalemia,) metabolic alkalosis, and death.
A Safety Communication was issued by the FDA in May 2012 concerning the risks of treating patients with dialysate concentrates containing acetate, acetic acid or citrate; NaturaLyte and Granuflo contained these additives, though healthcare professionals may have been unaware of this fact when patients were treated.
Court documents cite over 400 lawsuits have already been filed alleging injuries and wrongful death from these drugs. These cases have been consolidated into multidistrict litigation (MDL 2428) to be heard in the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts before the Hon. Douglas P. Woodlock.
