“It’s wonderful to provide a fun, safe and inspiring atmosphere where children not only learn to explore their creativity but also learn valuable business skills," said Gillelen.

Dragonfly Designs, a jewelry company in South San Francisco, launched its new after school programs, classes and winter camps for children ages six and up. The company, which also sells handmade jewelry for everyday use and special occasions, is offering new winter camp sessions where children learn jewelry making techniques as well as enjoy morning yoga sessions and educational hikes along San Bruno Mountain near the studio.
Children's classes at Dragonfly Designs focus on teaching real jewelry making techniques including copper etching, enameling, stamping and dapping, bead stringing, wire work, resin pendants, finger knitting and hair jewelry. Hour-long classes are available Monday through Saturday and cost $100 for a five-week session. Week-long winter camp sessions are available December 28 - January 1 and February 15 -19. Winter camps are offered Monday through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and cost $295.00 per week including all materials. Day Camps, offered when school is not in session, allow parents to be able to work, shop or run errands while their children engage in the arts and create handmade jewelry. Day Camps are offered either 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and cost $85.00 for a six-hour session including all materials. All teachers at the studio are college educated with degrees in the arts and meet all state standards for working with children.
Stacee Gillelen, a former V.P. Bank Manager at Bank of America and mom of four, founded Dragonfly Designs in 2005. After following her heart's desire to work with children, Gillelen launched her home-based studio and restructured the business in 2009 to offer classes, camps and after school programs at local schools. Within one year of launching the educational programs, Dragonfly Designs now offers after school programs in more than 20 schools and employs seven teachers in and around South San Francisco and the Peninsula down to San Jose. Gillelen is also planning to expand to the East Bay, Marin and San Diego counties.
Each month, 10 percent of all Dragonfly Designs' retail sales are donated to organizations dedicated to improving the human condition, promoting equality and protecting the environment. Gillelen's goal is to instill these same values in her students. In her newest class, Jewelry Making for Budding Entrepreneurs for children in third grade and above, students learn every aspect of owning and operating a socially conscious business.
"The new children's programs we offer here at Dragonfly Designs is one of the many things that set us apart from other jewelry companies," said Gillelen. "It's wonderful to provide a fun, safe and inspiring atmosphere where children not only learn to explore their creativity but also learn valuable business skills."
