Joe Miller Dispels Rumors, Sees Irony in Alaska GOP Establishment's Call for Pledge
Fairbanks, AK (PRWEB) June 18, 2014 -- Joe Miller, a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Alaska, today dispelled persistent rumors that he has refused to support the Republican nominee, if that nominee is not him. He sees irony in the GOP Establishment's calls for an unconditional pledge of support before the primary election.
Miller stated his position at the senate candidates forum at the Alaska Republican Party Convention last month and a few weeks ago at the UFL-CPG senate candidates debate in Anchorage. "Rumors that Joe has refused to back the Republican nominee, if the nominee is not him, are manifestly false. What he has consistently said, for months now, is that he will not make an unconditional pledge to support the Republican nominee, at this time, for what should be obvious reasons," said Miller campaign spokesman Randy DeSoto. "Neither of Joe's Republican primary opponents supported the Republican nominee in the state's last Senate election, and in all likelihood, neither did most of the folks spreading the misinformation now." Joe Miller stated, "Agreements of such a nature require a baseline of trust." His opponents' support for Lisa Murkowski after she lost the last primary makes it abundantly clear that such good will simply doesn't exist, and that their pledges are likely little more than self-serving rhetoric. Making such a pledge would be akin to unilateral surrender. As the old saying goes, “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”
DeSoto pointed out, "It is ironic that those who gladly supported the write-in candidate in the 2010 general election, after she had pledged to back the winner of the Republican primary (Peninsula Clarion, August 22, 2010), are now calling for a pledge of unconditional support by Joe Miller before the primary election in August."
But many Establishment Republicans remain silent over the fact that both of Miller’s primary opponents supported – and continue to support – (See: "US Senate Candidates Lie To AP About 2010 Support For RINO Senator," Western Journalism, 5/9/14) a senator who votes with President Obama at least 70% of the time. Unlike either of his opponents, Joe Miller lines up, point-by-point, with the Republican platform. In fact, during the Republican convention last month in Juneau focused on remaining true to that platform and the founding principles of this great nation.
DeSoto said, "It's time to stop spreading misinformation. With the support of liberty-loving Alaskans, Joe fully intends to win the Republican primary in August and defeat Mark Begich in November. On to victory!"
