Lompoc Passes City Policy to Encourage Healthy Living

Massage School San Diego has named its “step forward” pick of the week as the city of Lompoc, Calif., following its recent passage of a Healthy Eating Active Living Campaign policy that will encourage healthier eating and living amongst local residents.

As an advocate of healthy living, Massage School San Diego has named the city of Lompoc, Calif., as its “step forward” pick of the week. Massage School San Diego, which promotes healthy living, vegan foods and San Diego massage schools, issues its "step forward" pick once a week to an inspirational group, person or breakthrough in the massage or healthy living industries.

Just this week, the Lompoc City Council passed a healthy living policy as part of the state’s Healthy Eating Active Living Campaign initiative. The policy aims to encourage healthier eating and a more active lifestyle amongst Lompoc residents. Under the new policy, vacant city lots will now be used as community gardens until they are needed for other uses. Additionally, all vending machines will be required to include at least 50 percent healthy snacks, and city fundraiser must offer healthy food choices.

The policy also promotes activity amongst city employees, encouraging “active use” of lunch breaks. Overall, the policy aims to make healthy living a priority in city planning and policymaking, calling for a prioritization of funds for increasing physical activity and healthy eating whenever possible. The Healthy Lompoc Coalition, a local non-profit group, was also mentioned as a part of the policy, designated to provide aid in drafting and developing future policy recommendations.

Healthy Eating Active Living, also known as HEAL, is a California state initiative that aims to promote healthier living and eating at a city government level. It is organized by the League of California Cities and the California Center for Public Health Advocacy. So far, 135 California cities have adopted a local HEAL policy.

Lompoc is a city located in the Southwest region of California, on the Pacific Coast. It is a part of Santa Barbara County and has a population of 42,434 people. Officially incorporated as a city in 1888, Lompoc is known as the flower seed capital of the world.

California is a state located along the Pacific Coast in the Western United States. It is the third largest state in regards to land area, and the first largest in regards to population. The state currently has more than 37 million residents. It joined the union in 1851, making it the 31st state to do so.
