Lymeware Corporation, an innovative provider of Telecom and CLEC solutions for Communications Service Providers, today announced the availability of their first IAgent3 SUSE-Powered Appliance, a software appliance-based virtualized version of Lymeware's IAgent3 Interactive Agent product. This new version of the popular IAgent3 Secure Messaging Interactive Agent (IA) gateway product now supports VMware's ESX and ESXi hypervisors and offers the same network capability and security features of their past IAgent3 product releases but in a more cost-efficient manner by leveraging the benefits of a virtualized environment.

"The IAgent3 appliance is an example of how security, management and monitoring tools are evolving and adapting to new virtual environments," said Justin Steinman, vice president of Solution and Product Marketing at Novell. "As more enterprises and service providers embrace virtualization, they need tools to support their new infrastructure, such as Lymeware's IAgent3 Interactive Agent. We're thrilled to welcome Lymeware to the SUSE Appliance Program. Their decision to build a software appliance version of IAgent3 will help them to reduce development time, so they can deliver their software more quickly and easily to their customers."

Software appliances can help simplify an organization's IT infrastructure, helping customers benefit from Lymeware's Operations Support Systems (OSS) products without additional hardware and operating system investments. Easy-to-use and deploy software appliances such as the new IAgent3 appliance built on SUSE Linux Enterprise present compelling opportunities for telecommunication providers of every size.

Lymeware leveraged the SUSE Applicance Program from Novell to generate SUSE-powered IAgent3 software appliances. The SUSE Appliance Program offers the SUSE Studio appliance building tool, technical support and access to Novell online appliance support. Lymeware took advantage of this excellent support to rapidly generate their first software appliance, containing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.

"SUSE Studio was instrumental in allowing us to quickly generate our IAgent3 software appliance with minimal local technical resources," declared Michael Kobar, Chief Technology Officer for Lymeware. "We are now able to provide our product to customers with any version of VMware hypervisor, and all with the same operating system image."

Additional functionality included in the IAgent3 appliance:

  •     Packaged as a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 software appliance
  •     Available as an installable hard disk image, VMware appliance, or XEN image
  •     OS and application updates available from Lymeware's custom online repository

The Lymeware IAgent3 product is a conformal implementation of the Telecommunications Industry Forum (TCIF/ECIC) Electronic Communications Interactive Agent (TCIF 98-006 issue 2 and issue 3 IA), which allows secure EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) transactions over insecure networks, dedicated connections or the Internet via strong encryption, using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) open standards.

The Interactive Agent protocol is the U.S. Telecommunications industry standard integration interface for wholesale ordering and pre-ordering of services and network elements, and is either supported or required by all of the major Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs).

The commerce-class IAgent3 product gives Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and Cable companies (MSOs) the ability to communicate with all the major ILEC electronic ordering and provisioning systems using a single protocol and a single operations support system (OSS) or billing system interface. A version of the IAgent3 product for Service Bureau companies (capable of supporting multiple CLECs to multiple ILECs from a single IA platform) is also available.
