The Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) Homeless Persons Program will once again host a special event to target the less fortunate and homeless in Melbourne. The “Where the Heart is Festival” will be in Edinburgh Gardens North, Fitzroy on March 23rd.

Essentially this festival is a pamper day where by people in the community living on the fringe and doing it tough, come together for a free day of food, workshops, music festivities, literature, and pampering including massage, free dental checks and supplies, and haircuts.

Patricia Kennedy with the RDNS had this to say about the event, “Everything is free from the food to the workshops. It is a chance for everyone to display a talent or to feel special.”

The RDNS has found this is a wonderful opportunity for the less fortunate to come together, connect, and feel part of the community, rather than feel socially isolated and living on the fringe. Bringing people together helps not only the less fortunate, but also leaves a lasting impression on those who help on the day.
Forever Flawless, Melbourne’s leading team of hairdressers and makeup artists, will be donating their services with haircuts to those in attendance.

Caroline Balinska, lead artist at Forever Flawless, had this to say about the event, “It’s easy to think that these people are not worth helping, but it can happen to anyone, we need to help those less fortunate, because we never know what is around the corner for ourselves. Most of these people were once just like you and I, and something has happened to put them where they are now. Sometimes it takes a small helping hand to change someone’s life. Maybe one of these haircuts will help get one of these people a job, and pull them out of this situation. It’s easy to be judgmental, but maybe instead of sitting around judging people, why not try to help them first and see what can happen.”
