With Microscan’s 2015 acquisition of the leading verification systems manufacturer Label Vision Systems, Inc., (LVS), Microscan’s technology portfolio now offers a comprehensive suite of all-in-one, standards-based products for barcode verification and print quality inspection. Microscan LVS® brand products can be implemented at any stage of label print and production operations to check data accuracy, barcode legibility, and print quality defects or other blemishes – whether quality assurance is needed just after new labels are created, or in-line during label printing and application. Microscan’s off-line solutions include barcode verifiers that spot check labels for data compliance or readability issues before printing, while in-line print quality inspection systems offer real-time monitoring of labels in production to catch errors that may result on the fly. All Microscan products offer data capture through barcode reading and optical character recognition (OCR) to record data and validate accuracy, as well as print quality inspection through barcode verification (to ISO/IEC print quality standards) and optical character verification (OCV) to ensure long-term data legibility. In off-line testing, Microscan’s LVS® barcode verifiers are able to parse and evaluate codes for data format to GS1 or HIBCC specification tables as selected by the user and highlight problem areas or missing elements in encoded data that result in non-compliance.
At this year’s Labelexpo Americas, Microscan will showcase the LVS-7000 Print Quality Inspection System, a modular solution including camera, lighting, mounting, and software that integrates directly with printing presses and other wide-format printing equipment for in-line inspection of web and label print quality. The LVS-7000 ensures the integrity of label features, including presence and position of artwork elements, as well as accuracy of text, color, and barcodes. It is the only machine vision system on the market that is capable of blemish and defect detection, color process control, validation of human-readable data (OCR, OCV, and sequence/randomized validation), barcode reading, and ISO/IEC barcode quality grading for in-process label quality monitoring at the speeds of production. The LVS-7000 system will be showcased as a fully-integrated solution within an operational Aztech Converting Systems, Inc., inspection rewinder at Labelexpo in Microscan’s booth #1609.
Microscan’s LVS-7510 Print Quality Inspection System, which will also be on display, offers a label inspection solution that is custom-integrated with thermal printers, including leading brands like Zebra® and Printronix®. Like the LVS-7000, the LVS-7510 performs real-time label inspection for thermal labels including 1D/2D barcode verification, OCR, OCV, data serialization validation, blemish detection, and more. In addition to in-line inspection demos, Microscan will also demonstrate the LVS-9580 Handheld Barcode Verifier and LVS-9510 Desktop Barcode Verifier, both specialized solutions for off-line barcode verification to ISO/IEC barcode print quality parameters, GS1 specifications, and more.
