MilitaryConnection.com Joins Forces with Artists for Trauma to Assist in Trauma Recovery

AFT is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the quality of recovery and life for both civilian and military trauma survivors by pairing recovering patients with established artists from various disciplines. AFT programs are non-invasive, empowering art workshops.
“With an increase in Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Traumatic Stress, sexual assaults and suicides in the military and Veteran communities, alternative and holistic approaches to healing are becoming more widely accepted by mainstream treatment professionals,” said Military Connection CEO Debbie Gregory. “Anything that we can do to aid in the recovery of those who have served is our duty, and the least we can do, in view of their many sacrifices.”
AFT aims to expedite a quality recovery through artistic expression and human connection by providing a creative portal to help patients process complex emotions, regain confidence and build self-acceptance after suffering a traumatic experience.
Laura Sharpe, founder of AFT, explained, “We provide a pathway for trauma survivors to re-connect with themselves and their communities, through private, one-on-one or group instruction in a wide range of artistic disciplines.” Some of these creative art forms are photography, film, music, dance, painting, writing, sculpting, culinary art, meditation, and yoga.
Sharpe, herself a trauma survivor, said that these creative engagements have repeatedly shown to be of great assistance in helping those who have suffered physical, mental or emotional trauma.
AFT provides the instructor and all necessary art supplies at no charge. Participants progress at their own speed in a pressure-free environment.
