MOB Advocacy Principal Joins Southest Advisory Board of the Emerging Local Government Leaders Network
Fairfax, VA (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- MOB Advocacy, a national state and local government relations firm based in Fairfax, Virginia, is proud to announce that Michael O’Brien, founder and principal of the firm, has been invited to serve on the Southeast Advisory Board of the Emerging Local Government Leaders Network (ELGL).
“I am proud to be asked to serve on this board because it is recognition that MOB Advocacy’s commitment to building a strong local government relations practice is a success,” said Michael. “But I am also proud to serve on the board because ELGL is recruiting the best and the brightest minds in local government today. ELGL is a membership organization geared towards early to mid-career local government professionals. The organization was founded in Oregon by local government professionals looking for networking and mentoring opportunities, and platforms to discuss challenges faced by local governments and share best practices for dealing with common issues. The group has grown to a national organization and is the only professional association in the country that encourages membership from all levels of the government - federal, state and local, and includes elected, appointed and professional government officials. ELGL also invites non-profit and private sector organizations that work with local government to become members, believing that all sectors have a role to play in strengthening local government.
The Southeast Chapter covers ten states and two U.S. territories - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Advisory Board members mainly represent state and local government professionals, but is also comprised of public administration students and professors and representatives from the private sector.
“At MOB Advocacy, we focus on small businesses and startups. And we believe that there is a lot that local government leaders can learn from the private sector, especially startups and small businesses. Those entities, like many local governments, are often asked to do more with less,” says Michael. “Conversely, I think there is a lot that the private sector can learn from these new local government leaders. Regardless of whether you come from the public or private sector, I believe we all need to work together to make local government work.”
