mobiLUX© is proud to announce the launch of its new mobile verification technology that assures consumers they are buying name brand luxury items. All that’s needed is a camera enabled cell phone. The technology promises to turn the tables on the distribution of counterfeit goods.
According to a recent article, the damage caused by counterfeit luxury goods worldwide continues nearly unabated.¹ In New York City alone, a one-block raid in Chinatown netted over $1 million in counterfeit items. Thirty-two stores were shut down, but within days, the illegal vendors were back in operation. Annually, billions of dollars in tax revenue are lost to the global counterfeit market, yet government agencies, distracted by terrorism and other crime, have little time or resources to target counterfeiting.
mobiLUX’s new technology can put counterfeiters out of business. One of the most impressive and cost effective features of the mobiLUX technology is that it requires no specialized equipment on the part of the manufacturer, customer, retail personnel, importers or law enforcement. The technology works regardless of the mobile service provider or country.
mobiLUX CEO Aram Kovach said, “We designed mobiLUX to be the most simple, on the go, real-time tool for the verification of name brand luxury goods. A consumer, police officer or reseller can make an immediate verification - on the spot - as to whether the name brand item is real or fake. It doesn’t matter where you are, or what service provider you use. All you need is a camera-enabled cell phone with texting ability.” The global reach is reinforced by the fact that mobiLUX responds in the primary language of the country where the call originates.
mobiLUX technology is powered by the server-based Mobius image recognition engine, which requires no downloads or user fees. Users pay only the charges associated with their own mobile service plan.
The actual process works like this: using an ordinary cell phone with a camera and email or SMS text messaging capabilities, the customer, retail personnel, importer or law enforcement agent can either take a photo of the special mobiLUX label and send it to the mobiLUX website, or simply text the numerical codes on the label to mobiLUX.
The sender receives an immediate reply that provides information about the product’s source and status. In the event that a product is illegitimate or the label has been tampered with, mobiLUX warns the consumer. The mobiLUX system is multi-tiered, secure and redundant, and uses some of the same principles that the U.S. Treasury applies to authenticate currency.
For marketing purposes, mobiLUX can attach advertising messages in the verification reply. This feature can be expanded upon to add value for both the manufacturer’s brand and retailers.
