"This is a great step forward for our university,” said Creighton men’s basketball head coach Greg McDermott. “Not only does Creighton offer a values-based education rooted in intellectual tradition, but we also have first-rate athletics.”
Omaha, NE (PRWEB) May 28, 2013
Creighton University, the No. 1 Midwest Regional University according to the college edition of U.S. News & World Report, was selected to join the 10-league Big East conference, as announced earlier this year. The university, along with Xavier University and Butler University, joins a group of Catholic universities in the Big East: Marquette, Seton Hall, DePaul, Georgetown, St. John’s, Providence and Villanova.
The conference, which will officially assemble on July 1, 2013, will be basketball-centered. “This is a great step forward for our university,” said Creighton men’s basketball head coach Greg McDermott. “Not only does Creighton offer a values-based education rooted in intellectual tradition, but we also have first-rate athletics that we can now showcase on a higher level – it’s truly a winning combination.” The move also means an end to Creighton's association with the Missouri Valley Conference.
