Northern Westchester Hospital Recognized as One of the Highest Quality Hospitals in the United States
Westchester County, New York (PRWEB) December 16, 2014 -- Northern Westchester Hospital has been recognized by the Joint Commission as one of the Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™ in its 2014 annual report: America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety. Northern Westchester Hospital is the only hospital in Westchester County to be recognized for three consecutive years as one of the highest quality hospitals in the United States and is among only 7 hospitals in New York State to reach this high-level of patient care for three consecutive years.

According to the Joint Commission, fewer than 10% of the more than 3300 Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting core measure performance data attained this level of excellence for three consecutive years. Northern Westchester Hospital was named a 2013 Top Performer for its achievement of excellence in evidence-based measures pertaining to Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.

To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability measure data, including:
• Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures;
• Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases, and;
• Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 19,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. The Joint Commission evaluates hospital performance based upon clinical care that is more likely to have a significant impact on patient outcomes for those who have had a heart attack, heart failure or pneumonia, or who are undergoing certain surgical procedures; for children with asthma; and for patients receiving inpatient psychiatric care.
