Organic Qu Hao Silk: Rare Black Tea

We support the movement toward sustainable and organic tea production which is better for our customers and the environment. Our company is willing to pay more for a crop that relies on composting and crop rotation, and is grown free of pesticides.

The Tea Spot extends its commitment to loose leaf organic tea, adding three new premium teas to its list of 100% certified organic teas. The new teas, available for immediate retail purchase at The Tea Spot’s online tea store, include Organic Qu Hao Silk, Organic Russian Caravan, and Organic Smokejumper Ginger. These newly certified organic black teas are also available for wholesale purchase by tea shops and cafes internationally. One of The Tea Spot’s newest clients, Steep Tea in the Hilltop/Hale Neighborhood in Denver, Colorado, is celebrating its Grand Opening this month. Dan Cohen, owner of Steep Tea, who designed his list of 26 loose leaf teas exclusively from The Tea Spot’s wholesale tea selection emphasized his preference for offering certified organic teas to his customers whenever possible: "We wanted to offer our guests a wide range of organic loose leaf tea options throughout our twenty-six bin bulk tea wall. The Tea Spot has a wide variety of organic teas and the quality and taste of their product is exquisite. Not only do we offer these teas for sale, we also use many of them in our creative tea concoctions. In fact The Tea Spot's new Organic Smokejumper Ginger Tea is a base tea for Steep's homemade Chai Brew."

Increased consumer interest in the positive health effects from drinking tea is driving the demand for not only more tea consumption, but better quality teas. While global trends in tea preferences are evolving, the organic tea sector is expanding rapidly and gaining recognition for perceived better value and health benefits. Although there is a growing trend towards the consumption of organic tea, organic certification is still a costly and lengthy process, even though the production of full leaf tea used in many tea-producing regions is inherently a natural and sustainable process.

Acknowledging the growth in customer demand and benefits of organic loose leaf teas, The Tea Spot brings the same care to handcrafting exquisite organic teas as it does its popular signature tea blends. The Tea Spot’s CEO, Maria Uspenski, announced: “We support the movement toward sustainable and organic tea production which is better for our customers and the environment. Our company is willing to pay more for a crop that relies on composting and crop rotation, and is grown free of pesticides and chemical additives. Many of our customers believe that organic techniques make for better tasting tea.”

Organic Qu Hao Silk is a single estate organic tea from Mount Wuyi in Fujian, China, a region predominantly known for its oolong teas. This is a rare black tea, picked for only a short time each year. Qu Hao's rich body is low in tannins, with a natural note of chocolate, earning it The Tea Spot’s nickname "Black Silk". The aroma is lightly sweet. The tea leaves are long, thin and brew into a dark red liquor.

Organic Russian Caravan is a handcrafted full leaf version of the classic tea blend. It is bold in flavor, with a smooth profile from start to finish. This Russian Caravan tea is blended by the careful composition of four high-grade organic large leaf teas—lapsang souchong, dark roasted oolong, assam, and puerh. This strong breakfast tea is made premium through the quality of whole tea leaves used in the blend, elevating this traditional tea.

Organic Smokejumper Ginger tea is an invigorating spiced tea blend of organic lapsang souchong and organic ginger root. The resulting blend is warming and spicy. Because ginger root is sought out for its reputed health benefits, it is also incorporated in The Tea Spot’s Cold Buster Herbal Tea and Climber’s High chai tea. Paired here with smoky lapsang souchong, the ginger creates a powerful flavor combination of sharp and smooth.
