With Britain’s Got Talent currently on our screens, and with buzz about the X Factor, X Factor USA and American Idol continuing to draw huge attention, a new global online talent contest has been launched which aims to give hope to the millions of wannabe singers and artists that have not made it past Simon Cowell and co. Instant Fame and Wealth offers cash prizes to music clips that attract the most votes on Payperclip, a self-service online recording label.

Payperclip, which launched three years ago, allows any artist to upload and to sell their music and video direct to a global audience without need for a recording contract or other endorsement.

Commenting on the launch of the contest, Payperclip CEO, Paul Taylor, noted, “Over 99% of all musicians and artists remain unsigned and find it virtually impossible to promote themselves – profitably - to a global audience. And of course, we’re all familiar now with the scenes of tens of thousands queuing for a chance of appearing on the X Factor. This contest will cut through all of that by allowing users to promote themselves with the possibility of winning some real cash”.

Taylor continued, “Payperclip is aimed at providing those hopefuls with a means by which they can not only distribute their music globally, but can also sell it commission free. The old days of relying upon a recording contract may soon be a thing of the past”.

The site also allows individuals to sell video content as well. “We wanted to evolve the market created by YouTube into something which also offers commercial return for the user”, says Taylor. “By allowing people or companies to sell their video content, the site is opening a new stream of commercial possibilities for the phenomenal video-making community that YouTube has created. Think YouTube meets eBay”.
