Independent assessment of the IT project portfolio management (IT PPM) software market highlights PowerSteering’s ease-of-use, flexibility, and speed of deployment

PowerSteering Software, the leading provider of business-driven project portfolio management (PPM) solutions, today announced it was named a Leader for SaaS IT PPM by research firm IDC in the report “IDC MarketScape: IT Project and Portfolio Management, 2010 Vendor Analysis.”

The research examined four distinct views of the IT PPM market: Enterprise IT PPM, Software as a Service (SaaS)/On-Demand, IT Financial Management, and Application Lifecycle Management. PowerSteering was positioned in the Leaders segment of the SaaS/On-Demand IT PPM view, and scored in the Contenders segment in each of the other three areas. In its assessment of PowerSteering, the report stated, “PowerSteering's product strengths are its usability, configurability, speed of deployment, multi-tenant SaaS delivery model and single architecture.”*

According to the report, the broader trend of the growing popularity of SaaS solutions in the IT PPM market reflects the need for solutions that can be implemented quickly. Such solutions enable faster user adoption by not requiring extensive resources, cost, or process change up-front. IDC’s interviews with PowerSteering clients validated that PowerSteering is delivering exactly such benefits. Users cited low cost of ownership, product flexibility, ease of implementation, and the ability to support a phased approach to IT PPM adoption as key advantages of PowerSteering.

“It’s gratifying to be recognized for offering an on-demand delivery model superior to those of the larger PPM vendors, who as IDC points out are typically either new to SaaS or actually offer SaaS only through outsourced hosting partners,” stated Paul Novak, PowerSteering’s VP of Cloud Infrastructure. “By contrast, PowerSteering was designed from day one as a cloud application, and we view providing world-class SaaS hosting as a core competency critical to the success of our organization and our customers.”
