Prometric's launch of a brand new, low-cost Certified Alcohol Handler Training program and exam will allow restaurant owners, bar managers and training schools nationwide to save thousands of dollars on responsible alcohol management training.

Prometric's offer, available for sale to training companies in the U.S., bundles a training manual and a certification exam for the low cost of $20 U.S., less than equivalent programs. The exam will be made available to candidates through food and beverage industry training companies, via the Internet and in a paper based format, making it easily accessible to bar owners, restaurant managers and other industry personnel, establishments and associations nationwide.

Graduation from an alcohol certification program is crucial for those that sell and serve alcoholic beverages, and is required by over 30 states. In addition, many insurance providers offer discounts to those individuals who hold a certification. Since customer service providers in the alcohol industry are faced with numerous challenges that impact their ability to perform their job legally and effectively, the training and exam cover topics such as alcohol addiction, Dram Shop responsibility, fake ids, underage purchase and consumption, gauging "cut off" limits and DUI/DWI risks.

"The Alcohol handler certification protects businesses and patrons from injury, lawsuits and liability by helping food and beverage service industry members navigate the legal and ethical challenges presented in environments where alcohol is present," said Ray Kelly, Senior Vice President at Prometric. "Excessive consumption of alcohol is linked to one half of all traffic accidents, two thirds of homicides, three fourths of suicides and many other crimes. To protect the public safety, food and beverage service industry personnel need to make it their responsibility to get trained on best practices in safe handling. With Prometric's new offering, the food and beverage industry has a much more cost-effective path to alcohol certification."
