Push to Walk Trainers Return from Working 2 Walk Symposium
Riverdale, NJ (PRWEB) October 30, 2014 -- Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18, 2014 marked the weekend of the Working 2 Walk Symposium, hosted by Unite 2 Fight Paralysis in Seattle, WA. This is an annual conference, bringing together over 200 scientific researchers, community members, and advocates to discuss and learn the latest in paralysis research and curative therapies. Each morning there were formal presentations given to the entire conference, followed by small group discussions in the afternoon. Among many topics discussed were various forms of non-invasive therapies, as well as cutting-edge surgeries, which in time could have significant breakthroughs for the paralysis community.
Presentations from spinal cord injury advocates Rachelle Friedman Chapman and Matthew Rodreick encouraged those living with SCI to vocalize their challenges, the types of therapies they want, and ultimately the need for a cure. Those in the audience were challenged to take this next year to reach out to press, researchers, and state legislation to further the cure movement with a plan to reconvene at Working 2 Walk 2015 with what worked and what did not.
“Perhaps the greatest take away was confirmation from various esteemed spinal doctors that our program of exercise intensive therapy is crucial for future medical advancements, both before and after any procedures,” said Tommy Sutor, Program Director of Push to Walk.
Our staff has returned eager to get involved in research and partnerships with universities and technology companies. We will take this next year to do our part in the cure movement and return to Working 2 Walk 2015 to share our progress.
