Qosmos Announces Founding Membership in CloudNFV, Multi-Vendor NFV Demonstration Platform
Paris, France (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- Qosmos, the market leader in embedded Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and network intelligence technology, today announced that it is a founding member of CloudNFV, a cooperative initiative creating an open, multi-vendor platform to implement Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) based on established cloud computing and Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies. Qosmos provides key network intelligence technology required for traffic optimization and control in the multi-vendor NFV demonstration platform.
The CloudNFV initiative, which is coordinated by Tom Nolle, President of CIMI Corporation, brings together companies with complementary technology and expertise to demonstrate a multi-vendor NFV platform. In addition to Qosmos and CIMI Corporation, the other founding members are 6WIND, Dell, EnterpriseWeb, and Overture.

Qosmos technology plays a key role in the CloudNFV Demonstration Platform. First, Qosmos DeepFlow DPI OEM traffic probes monitor traffic flows so the platform can optimize network utilization and performance. Second, the Qosmos ixEngine DPI engine is used as a VNF Component (VNFC) to enhance service chaining. This allows service providers to optimize Virtual Machine placement and orchestration on top of physical resources.

The objective of CloudNFV is to structure software and hardware elements, select practical interfaces and data models, and adapt as needed through the evolution of the ETSI NFV ISG specification. Qosmos plays an active role in standardizing DPI and Network Intelligence within the Open Networking Foundation (ONF™) and the ETSI Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Industry Specification Group (ISG). As part of the ETSI NFV ISG, Qosmos contributed to the Software Architecture group for the use case definition of the Virtual Networking Function Component (VNFC). Qosmos’ DPI engine was used as an illustration in the definition.
