Renowned Lighting Designer Christopher Thompson And Project Designer Jim Sultan To Head Lighting For Exclusive Beijing Resort
Beijing, China (PRWEB) June 18, 2014 -- Lighting designer and founder Christopher Thompson, along with project designer Jim Sultan of the internationally recognized firm Studio Lux, have recently been appointed lighting designers for the exclusive Hulu Island Resort located in Beijing, China.
In collaboration with BDCL Design International Ltd., Studio Lux will develop the fixture vocabulary and design which will utilize the latest in LED technology. The lighting design is to focus on the exterior of the buildings, the illumination of the interconnecting pathways, and highlighting several water features and waterways which are designed to tie the pavilion-style project together, with great emphasize on the water-centric design of the project.
“Since the times of the Forbidden City, water is an important aspect of Chinese architecture,” explains Jim Sultan the project designer. “All buildings were designed with water in front of them, and mountains behind them. Our design will work to elevate this design goal by using several layers of lighting in and around the water features so that the water is visible, but also experienced.” Thompson adds. “Light and water is an important aspect of this design. It’s not just an embellishment rather; it is part of Chinese culture and the building blocks of successful design. We’re enjoying the process by which we participate in that role.”
Thompson and Sultan’s design will stand as an eloquent expression of the LED fixture vocabulary and bolster the cultural principles of the Chinese esthetic and the use of lighting. The design will also look to encapsulate innovation while redefining the role of traditional lighting décor. The team set out to find the balance between lighting artistry and lighting practicality, two principles that define Studio Lux’s design approach to lighting and two that are repeated throughout its work.
