Report Released By the National Academy of Social Insurance This Month Shows Georgia To Be One of 22 States Whose Workers’ Compensation Benefits Payments Dropped in 2011

The NASI report detailed the amount paid to injured workers in Georgia in 2011 and compared that amount to 2010. The report also compared the costs that were absorbed by employers in Georgia in 2011 and compared those costs to 2010. The report revealed that both of those numbers went down in the subsequent year. Specifically, the report found that workers who were injured in Georgia were paid a total of $1.39 billion in workers’ compensation benefits in 2011. That number represented a drop by a factor of 4.3 percent when compared to 2010. Georgia was found to be one of 22 states where total workers’ compensation payments and costs for employers dropped during the year 2011.
This drop in the amount of payments and costs borne by employers represents a different trend when compared to the statistics that applied to the entire United States during 2011. During that year, total benefits rose by a factor of 3.5 percent to $60.2 billion when compared to 2010. The total costs to employers rose by a factor of 7.1 percent to a total of $77.1 billion.
“The report released by the NASI shows that people who are injured while on the job in Georgia need to put their best foot forward in order to obtain the benefits they need and deserve,” said Jaret A.
