Continuing to expand its innovative workforce development program, the nonprofit Year Up announced today that Cindy Robbins, President and Chief People Officer at Salesforce, has joined its National Board of Directors as of January 2019.
At Salesforce, Robbins leads the company’s efforts to attract, develop and retain the best talent. She is one of the pioneers of Salesforce’s equal pay efforts, which has resulted in the company spending $8.7 million to date to address any unexplained differences in pay.
“Cindy’s tremendous experience and leadership in talent management will allow Year Up to connect more young adults in need of an opportunity with companies in need of their skills,” said Gerald Chertavian, Year Up Founder and CEO. “We’re excited to partner with Cindy and ensure that our curriculum continues to reflect current labor market demands as we expand into new markets and cities.”
As a Year Up National Board Member, Robbins will be responsible for supporting Year Up’s mission to close the Opportunity Divide, including overseeing Year Up’s Human Capital strategy. Year Up provides six months of free in-demand technical and professional job training to young adults (ages 18-24, without college degrees) followed by a six-month internship at a top company. Salesforce was a founding partner of Year Up in 2008. To date, they’ve hosted nearly 400 Year Up interns and hired more than 50 percent of them.

During her tenure at Salesforce, Robbins scaled the organization’s unique culture to help the company earn top rankings in Fortune’s Most Admired Companies, Indeed's Best Places to Work in Technology, LinkedIn’s Top Companies and Glassdoor’s Employees’ Choice Awards. Named one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Latinas in Business in 2018, Robbins is also an advocate for the Latinx community.
Robbins has more than 15 years of experience in the field of Human Resources. Previously, Robbins held other leadership roles at Salesforce within Employee Success, where she oversaw recruiting and many global business partners. Prior to joining Salesforce in 2006, she held positions at major technology companies including BEA, OpenWave, Plumtree Software and Excite@Home. She holds a B.S. in Political Science from Santa Clara University.
Founded in Boston in 2000, Year Up now serves more than 4,500 young adults every year, connecting them with meaningful wage careers in business and IT at hundreds of top companies across the country. A recent federally-sponsored evaluation of Year Up showed a 53% increase in initial earnings for young adults randomly assigned to Year Up compared with similar young adults in a control group—the largest impacts on earnings reported to date for a workforce program tested in a randomized controlled trial.
